The Land of 'We of the Never Never...'

The Jilkminggan Community is situated on the riverbanks of the famous Roper River, 130 kms South East of Katherine.

Jilkminggan is located on the traditional tribal lands of the Mangarrayi Aboriginal people, who were made famous world wide by the movie 'We of the Never Never'. This brilliant historical movie was shot on location at the beautiful Elsey Station.

Elsey Station comprises some 3,000 square kms of prime cattle country. Elsey is owned and co-managed by the Mangarrayi people who have employed a station manager, whose prime responsibility is to operate Elsey station activities on their behalf. Elsey Station breeds brahman cattle for the export market and has an average herd of 12,000 head yearly.

Jilkminggan Community Government Council is dedicated to offering the best services possible to the Jilkminggan community. The Council are taking an active approach to working closely with the community so that we can together create a place that we can all be proud of and feel happy and safe to live in.

The Jilkminggan Council hopes that this website will be of value to the community and to our visitors by giving people a chance to see what our community and the Council has to offer.
